John Krasinski Hosted A Wholesome Virtual Prom For The Quarantined Class Of 2020
"You guys are missing a whole lot of things, and we couldn't let prom be one of them."
To boost the spirits of people missing out on their proms this year, John Krasinski hosted a special virtual prom night on his Some Good News YouTube channel.
The fallout from the coronavirus has hit in many huge and life-altering ways across the globe. This also means that people are experiencing countless less serious disappointments, that while may be small relative to what else is going on, still absolutely suck. One of these is that high school students, the class of 2020, will not be able to experience proms or formals this year. In America, a lot of proms would be happening around now, and people are upset that they will be missing out.
My high school senior just found out her prom is cancelled. On top of her finishing out her senior year at home, she will probably have her diploma mailed to her. I’m a little heartbroken for her over all this.

If you are a bit older and only remember the part of your formal where someone got so drunk afterwards they almost fell into a fire (for example), you might not think this is that big of a deal. But it’s a highlight of people’s high school careers, and something they look forward to for a long time. So yes, it’s not losing your job or getting sick, but not being able to experience this event is still upsetting. Enter John Krasinski, who sent out an invitation last week inviting everyone to join him at a virtual prom.
The invite was part of Krasinski’s YouTube series he’s been doing throughout lockdown called Some Good News (SGN), where he and guests highlight positivity. This event was no different, with Krasinski hosting, and calling in some friends to appear. This included performances by Billie Eilish and also the Jonas Brothers, both of which had people vibing along at home.

Krasinski also invited The Office co-star Rain Wilson on for a chat, and when they were randomly joined by Chance the Rapper, all three went off together.
It was all very wholesome and cute, and it seemed that the night really did make some people feel a bit better about missing out on their prom.
My daughter’s prom was officially cancelled today so we are dressing up and joining @johnkrasinski ‘s PROM livestream. Thanks for doing this! https://t.co/WOz3UN9jZ9 pic.twitter.com/W378E8Oky1

The event doesn’t fully make up for what people have lost, but people really appreciated what Krasinski tried to do for them.
