Stranger Things star Joe Keery – aka teen heartthrob Steve Harrington – debuted a new haircut at a Chanel event in LA earlier this week. He looks nice!

While some have described it as a bowl cut, bangs, or even perhaps Beatles-esque, the look has more of a ’90s Britpop vibe to me. See this side-by-side with Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher.

Choppy bangs are very mid-’90s Blur, late ’90s Libertines or even early Stone Roses/every time I get dumped.

Keery is yet to comment on the dramatic style change, but much of the internet is not happy, no, not at all, about the loss of his iconic ’80s mullet.

The haircut has spawned plenty of pretty spot-on comparison posts – the strongest being the link to Jim Carrey in Dumb and Dumber.

And, of course, there were memes, because this is the internet.

A fourth season of Stranger Things is yet to be announced, which means it’s actually totally fine for Keery to drop the Steve Harrington sailor boy look. It’s just disappointing.

Going by Djo, Keery released his first jangly solo album, Twenty Twenty, on Friday. It’s got strong Mac DeMarco slacker vibes – not surprising considering the sound of his former psych-rock band Post Animal.

Keery’s posted about the record on his Instagram. Many fans have commented only to share sentiments like, “im not listening to it until you grow your hair back”.

But it’s okay, because Jean-Ralphio is all about it:

Stranger Things is streaming now on Netflix. And hair grows back, folks. The mullet lives on in our hearts and minds and TV screens.
