J.Lo’s Obsession With That Bloody Green Dress Has Become A Hilarious New Meme
"The other clothes in J Lo’s closet when she leaves the house in that Versace dress again..."
The 42nd Grammy Awards, held in February 2000, were notable for a couple of reasons. Firstly, Santana swept the awards for his album Supernatural, picking up nine gongs and equalling Michael Jackson’s record for the most awards in a single night for one artist.
But secondly, and perhaps more importantly, Jennifer Lopez wore the Green Dress. Designed by Donatella Versace, it was a flowing silk chiffon jungle-print gown with a neckline that plunged to Lopez’s waist, where it was studded with citrines.
The outfit caused a frenzy of press coverage — it was splashed across fashion pages all over the world, and it quite literally changed the internet: Google, noticing the massive surge in searches for photos of the dress, created ‘image search’ (before then, all search results were just text and links).
It has gone down in history as a pivotal moment in fashion, something that isn’t lost on Lopez, who has discussed it at length in countless interviews over the years. Last year, she even recreated the look at a Versace show in Milan, wearing an updated version of the dress that had a slightly flashier brooch at the waist, and no sleeves.
Now, it’s back on the timeline again. Yesterday, she posted a short video to her socials reliving the 2019 show:

And, almost immediately, people began to royally take the piss, seemingly annoyed that J.Lo brings up the dress at every available opportunity.
If it’s one thing J Lo gonna do, it’s remind us she wore that Versace dress https://t.co/67fsSH1yRv

If J.Lo doesn’t do anything else, she’s going to pull out that 2000 Versace dress!

It’s now evolved into a very sharp, and very, very funny meme. There’s also a petition to ‘Stop Jennifer Lopez and that Green Dress‘, which has over 300 signatures at the time of writing.
