Jarrod Jeremiah Sucks: “I Crashed Into Three Stationary Cars In The Space Of Three Months”

Boorloo singer/producer/multi-instrumentalist Jarrod Jeremiah works HARD. I’ve followed his musical journey over the past couple of years, and he’s always plotting antics to promote his singles. His latest, ‘Chocolate’, is a collaboration with Naarm singer-songwriter Holly Hebe, and it’s as sweet as the name implies. It’s breezy and bright, a love song that’s familiar without feeling stale.

To mark the release of ‘Chocolate’, Junkee caught up with Jarrod to chat about his driving-related struggles, making movies for YouTube, and developing a refined palate. He’s previously released a track called ‘Chili Chips’, and this single’s called ‘Chocolate’, so I’m fully expecting this refined palate to result in him releasing a track called ‘Caviar’ or ‘Pâté’ down the line.

Junkee: A mistake that turned into an opportunity?

I make a lot of mistakes, to be honest… There are probably some grammar mistakes throughout this interview, but I think all my mistakes sorta find a way to teach me something. For example, my bad grammar taught me to pay attention in English classes (or download Grammarly).

Cringe quote you used to live by?

Bad things happen so good things can come out of it. (SO CRINGE) — I still sorta try to live by this though.

Worst advice you got and blindly followed?

I was once told that good things come to those who wait (another cringe quote). While trusting the process is all well and good — I think that being proactive and asking for things that you want, while it may feel forced at the time, is a great and super useful way to push yourself to new heights in whatever field.

The worst failure you’re up for sharing, and what you learned from it?

I crashed into three stationary cars in the space of three months… I learnt that I’m a bad driver (or was).

Anything you used to be wrong about?

I used to hate olives and red wine, but somehow by trying to act classy, I fell in love.

Embarrassing internet habit?

I used to upload movies I’d make to YouTube and title them JJ Films. The movies kinda slapped but, um, they were pretty awkward.

Ideal morning routine versus actual morning routine?

Ideal routine: Wake up before around 8am, gym, read, shower, go start the day.

Real routine: Wake up 15 mins before I need to be somewhere or miss my alarm, shower, turn up to sessions/meetings with coffee in hand and semi-wet hair.

Something very off-brand for you?

I listen to a lot of drill music (started off just as a joke) — my alter ego is dressing and talking like a UK roadman (partly thanks to Top Boy).

Bad health decision?

Going to SXSW and getting on the bevs from 11am for a whole week #stillrecovering.

What do you waste money on?

Different colours of crocs.

Worst procrastination habit?
Going on a YouTube spiral watching random food reviews.
