Japan Are Turning Drunk People Into Billboards Again
*Tugs nervously at collar*
Ads Of The World have spotted a new public awareness campaign in Japan, and it’s pretty great. Basically, like in a lot of places (ahem, Australia), the Japanese like a drink. Unlike here, though, the businessmen of Tokyo have a nasty habit of falling down drunk right there in the street. There are obviously good social and medical reasons to throttle back on the booze, but now fear of humiliation — ok, even greater — humiliation needs to be considered as well. This (probably completely staged) video shows the assorted wastrels of the Tokyo night being turned into ‘living billboards’, cautionary tales to their fellow citizens
On top of that, bystanders are being encouraged to share images of the ‘billboards’ on twitter, using the #nomisugi hashtag.I don’t know what ‘nomisugi’ means, but I assume it translates roughly to ‘don’t be like this jerk — this one right here’.
What’s great about the campaign is that it combines our high-minded aspirations with the natural human inclination to take pleasure in the misfortunes of others. One doubts that it would work in Australia, though — we could probably do with examining our penchant for getting blotto, but at least we generally make it home after a bender.
