Prepare Your Dacks: The Trailer For Terrifying New James Wan Horror Film ‘Malignant’ Is Here
This thing looks wild.
After taking a dovetail into the world of spandex and superheroes, Australian horror maestro James Wan has returned to the genre that made him famous with Malignant — and boy howdy does this thing look terrifying.
The set-up for the film is simple: a young woman finds herself haunted by grisly visions of murders as they are happening. Sent down a spiralling journey into her own past, the woman becomes convinced that the murders are being committed by Gabriel, the imaginary friend that she dreamt up as a traumatised child. Racing against the clock, she finds that she must confront her own demons in order to put a stop to the supernatural killing spree.
Basically, picture a version of Drop Dead Fred with far more blood and guts and you’re on the right track.
In an exclusive interview with IGN, Wan explained that he wanted to return to his grittier, more lo-fi roots with Malignant, making the horrifying movie inbetween the filming of two massive superhero epics, Aquaman and its already announced sequel.
“It’s horror, but it’s also a traditional thriller,” Wan explained. “It’s psychological, it’s serial killer, but it’s also potentially a monster movie.”
