James Cameron Says ‘Mythbusters’ Are “Full Of Shit”; There Was No Room For Jack On That Door
Titanic's greatest plot hole continues to torment.
For many years, one conspiracy theory has survived the changing tides of internet interest: that in Titanic, there was enough room for both Jack and Rose on the board, but selfishly Rose chose not to let him on. Thus, Rose killed Jack and love is a farce.
It's fucking bullshit that Jack dies. There is plenty of room on that door. I am going to bed.

This theory was so ubiquitous that in 2012, Mythbusters actually decided to test whether Rose and Jack could have both survived the icy waters if Rose had just scooched over a touch. At the end of the episode, Titanic director, James Cameron, even conceded that they were right and Jack could have lived, but Cameron just needed him to die in the story.
However, now it seems like James Cameron was just playing nice for the TV cameras and in actual fact, resents that the legitimacy of one of his movies is being questioned. In an interview with The Daily Beast, a brave journalist brings up #Raftgate and Cameron goes on a delightful rant about the theory.
“We’re gonna go there?” Cameron says. “Look, it’s very, very simple: you read page 147 of the script and it says, ‘Jack gets off the board and gives his place to her so that she can survive’. It’s that simple. You can do all the post-analysis you want.”
Cameron then attempted to bust Mythbuster‘s busting of the Titanic myth, which really needs to be read in its entirety. “OK, so let’s really play that out: you’re Jack, you’re in water that’s 28 degrees, your brain is starting to get hypothermia,” he continues. “Mythbusters asks you to now go take off your life vest, take hers off, swim underneath this thing, attach it in some way that it won’t just wash out two minutes later — which means you’re underwater tying this thing on in 28-degree water, and that’s going to take you five to 10 minutes, so by the time you come back up you’re already dead. So that wouldn’t work. His best choice was to keep his upper body out of the water and hope to get pulled out by a boat or something before he died.”
“They’re fun guys and I loved doing that show with them, but they’re full of shit.”
Case closed, everyone!
