Jacob Elordi Is The Himbo We Deserve
I’m just going to say it. Jacob Elordi is the himbo that Hollywood needs right now. For too long we’ve had men with big egos talk about things ad nauseam. But right now, all I want is Jacob Elordi talking about Lilo & Stitch and his male celebrity crushes.
I’m not saying Jacob doesn’t have a big ego. He went to a private school in Queensland. I know all too well the ego those types of boys carry. I’m just saying the persona of himbo he’s taken on at the moment is exactly what’s needed for the culture. We need less men talking out of their arse and more talking about their man crushes, their cartoon influences, and not going method.
For those who don’t know, a himbo is a usually tall, good-looking and goofy but well-meaning man with a big heart. They’re nice and respectful guys without any ulterior motives. Think Hercules or Roy from Ted Lasso. I do think that Jacob is rather intelligent. His ability to transform into a role is quite remarkable. However, some of his recent interviews for Priscilla (Jacob is playing Elvis in Sofia Coppola’s new A24 biopic about Priscilla Presley) have captured the heart of the internet because of how silly, fun, and lighthearted they are. These are the core tenets of being a himbo.
On The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Jacob was asked if he listened to Elvis as a kid. I was expecting him to go on a long jerk-off about how much of a king Elvis was, etc etc. Instead, he said, “The most I knew of Elvis was in Lilo & Stitch”.
I’m sorry but that’s the most iconic answer to that question. You’re telling me that Jacob auditioned for — and won — the part of Elvis when his primary knowledge of the man came from this scene? Austin Butler is somewhere right now screaming into a pillow.
That’s not all though. Jimmy Fallon also asked Jacob who his first celebrity crush was. He said Brad Pitt. See? Very himbo behaviour. Jacob has actually been asked about his celebrity crushes before. Previously, he’d mentioned Orlando Bloom in The Lord of the Rings. (He’s just like me… though I would’ve gone with Orlando in Pirates of the Caribbean.) His reasoning? Because Orlando was “pure and fine”. Okay slay!
In that same interview, Jacob even referred to himself as a “tall girl”. This is just all too much. I’m sorry. I’m so here for his vibe of not caring about what he says and being this cutesy little airhead girly himbo. A voice of a generation, really.
It’s hard to separate an actor from their role and Jacob plays Nate from Euphoria a little too well. I think that’s why I dismissed him at first — he seemed to be just like every other guy I went to high school with. But he’s clearly nothing like Nate. In fact, you’d be pleased to know that he’d like to beat up Nate. As we all would.
