Over the last few days, a debate has been raging on Twitter over whether Jack Black could replace Chris Pratt in any of his roles.

The debate comes on the heels of Chris Pratt being voted Hollywood’s worst Chris in a Twitter poll back in October.

Seemingly, the debate was sparked after Jack Black released a wholesome video of himself dressed as Spider-man, Spider-manning all around his house. The video is iconic, and fans were even petitioning for him to have a role in the MCU.

Things really kicked off when one Twitter user tweeted a thread on exactly why Jack Black could and should replace Chris Pratt in everything. The user argued that while both the actors can be and are excellent at physical comedy, Black can pull off more serious and tender elements of roles, where Pratt can’t.

In the early days of Pratt’s career, many people drew understandable parallels between his and Black’s comedic acting styles. But it’s fair to say the trajectory of their careers is vastly different, especially after Chris Pratt buffed up for the MCU. Though that hasn’t stopped people making the compelling case that Jack Black is sexier than Chris Pratt.

The debate got Jack Black trending and as a result, people were sharing their favourite Jack Black press and movie moments. For a few blissful hours, Twitter became a Jack Black appreciation haven for the iconic actor’s most legendary work.

Personally? I believe Black’s best role to date is as Bethany in Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle. I will die on the hill that he should have won an Oscar for that performance, period.  Chris Pratt could never so convincingly and empathetically embody a teenage girl.

Regardless of where you sit in the Pratt v. Black debate, one thing is for sure: 2020, the world, and maybe even the MCU needs more Jack Black.
