Artists Are Getting Tricked Into Thinking Italians In Quarantine Are Singing Their Songs

Still trying to get over Cheryl Cole thinking Italians in lockdown are screaming 'Fight For This Love' at each other from their balconies.

As Italy has been in full lockdown following the rapid spread of COVID-19, entire streets have banded together to make quarantine a little more fun.

Videos of Italians taking to their balconies to sing and play instruments together have swept over the internet in recent days. These joyous videos of lively suburbs who haven’t lost hope have become a shining light in the dark times the world is currently experiencing.

You know, dark times like the current stockpiling insanity and physical fighting over toilet paper.

As lockdowns become a very real reality for other countries across the globe, these videos show the importance of community spirit. These snapshots into current lockdown life also show the power and importance of music in boosting mood and morale for entire groups of people.

While the quarantine period continues, more and more wholesome videos of Italians on balconies singing different songs emerge online. But as quick as the real videos took off, so did the mock ones.

Stan accounts hijacked the idea of people singing songs together and turned it into a way to promote their favourite artists’ music. The “Italians singing” videos were edited with audio from concerts to make them sound like a larger group of people singing and therefore, a little more realistic.

From Rihanna’s ‘Bitch Better Have My Money’ to ‘Team’ by Lorde, a number of freshly dubbed videos started circulating online.

While pretty obvious that none of these videos were at all real, gullible celebrities fell for them hook, line and sinker. Retweeting the viral video of Italians “singing” ‘Roar’, Katy Perry wrote: “You cannot break the human spirit. We are one in this.”

And I’m sorry, but can you imagine a group of sad people thinking: “You know what will bond us and boost our spirits? ‘Roar’ by Katy Perry.”

But Katy Perry wasn’t the only one fooled by these mock videos. Madonna shared a video of some balcony singers chanting her tune ‘I Rise’ with the caption: “Let us all RISE UP. Everywhere around the world!!”

Even Cheryl Cole believed that the song of choice for quarantined Italians was her sad dance banger ‘Fight For This Love’, which honestly makes very little sense.

Shawn Mendes also proved that he can’t tell the difference between real and fake. Somehow believing that the piano melody from ‘Treat You Better’ could play that loudly and clearly in a little Italian street, Shawn posted the video onto his Instagram story with the word “Wow.”

Who knows which celeb will fall for this new meme next? My bets are on Miss Rita “my Twitter got hacked” Ora, tbh.
