Watch This Video Of Indigenous Australians Busting Shitty Stereotypes
And answer the questions you've always wanted to ask.
In honour of Reconciliation Week, The University of Sydney has released an “Ask Us Anything” style video that aims to abolish the harmful myths and stereotypes about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
For the video, Indigenous staff and students of the university answered anonymously submitted questions about casual racism, stereotypes they’re sick of hearing, and what non-Indigenous Australians do to try and make up for the past.
You Can’t Ask That
Watch the video to see a range of questions answered, from, “Why is dancing so important in Indigenous ceremonies?” to, “What’s one thing about Indigenous people or culture that others can’t seem to understand?”
It’s a must-watch, especially during Reconciliation Week, where non-Indigenous Australians have a responsibility to learn more about the past, present and future of Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
You can watch the video in it’s entirety below, or chuck it a like on Facebook here. And of course, learn more about Reconciliation Week here.
