Ilana And Trey From ‘Broad City’ Have Made You A Show About A Time-Travelling Bong
It premieres on April 20 – because of course it does.
Though the premise of this new mini-series could not be any more absurd, something right at the white-hot core of it feels completely inevitable. From the second Ilana Glazer pulled some weed from “nature’s pocket” in Broad City‘s second-ever episode to last week when she left some middle-aged Asian tourists to hot box in her room, we knew this time travelling stoner flick was on its way.
Time Travelling Bong is a three-part show due to air on Comedy Central later this month, directed by Broad City‘s Lucia Aniello and co-written with Ilana Glazer and Paul W. Downs (who you may know better as Trey). In it, Glazer and Downs star as cousins who find a bong which aimlessly catapults them through time whenever they take a hit. This lands them running from dinosaurs, hanging with Baby Michael Jackson, being throttled by cavemen, and living out at least a little time in a post-apocalyptic Mad Max world where everyone rides BMX and wears computers on their heads.
This idea actually originated as a skit on College Humour in 2012 and hasn’t changed all that much along the way. Here, Ilana and Paul used the bong to travel to 1776 because it’s “the most majestic time in the nation’s history” and ended up being bombarded with a vile cocktail of bodily fluids and rancid BO before saving a very confused slave. This is a good indication of what’s to come.
