Love the Hottest 100 of the Decade but wish that it was a little more, well, sad? Then boy howdy are you in luck.

See, Taking Back Saturday, one of the biggest pop punk and emo pub nights in the country, has just announced a Saddest 100 poll. Think triple j’s Hottest 100, but exclusively for the songs that you scrawled out lyrics from in your teenage diary during long, lonely nights.

That means it’s a perfect opportunity to spruik all those acts that will miss out when it comes to the actual Hottest 100 of the Decade poll.

Reckon that Gerard Way is the number one artist of the last few decades? Still have the lyrics to every Fall Out Boy song imprinted into the firmament of your brain? Then head over to the Saddest 100 website, here, and get yourself voting. You’ll have to narrow down your list to a mere ten songs, so probably best to start thinking now.

Better yet, there’s no time restriction on the songs you choose. This isn’t a poll of the songs of the decade — it’s a poll of the saddest songs full stop, giving you ample opportunity to plumb the genre’s entire history.

Voting is open until Monday 23 March. Results will be announced on the evening of April 4. There’ll be events in every major city to celebrate the countdown: head here for Brisbane, here for Melbourne, here for Sydney, here for Adelaide, here for Hobart, and here for Perth.
