Double J Has Revealed Who Won Out Their 1998 Hottest 100 Revote
The top 10 received a shake up, but some things stay pretty fly.
Last week, Double J re-opened voting for the 1998 Hottest 100, given that its original winner, The Offspring’s ‘Pretty Fly (For A White Guy)’, is one of the countdown’s most controversial. This morning, Zan Rowe revealed the new (unofficial) top 10 on-air — and while it’s been a bit of a shake-up, some things never change.
Yep, that’s right: despite the fact that even The Offspring themselves told fans to vote for The Living End, ‘Pretty Fly’ has taken out the #1 spot once again. The rest of the list is pretty scrambled though — most notably, Ben Lee’s ‘Cigarettes Will Kill You’, previously #2, is nowhere to be seen. Maybe we’ve all heard it one time too many.
Instead, Regurgitator’s ‘! (Song Formerly Known As.)’ is your runner up, followed by Rob Zombie’s ‘Dragula’. The whole Top 10 leans to the heavy side, with Metallica, Rage Against The Machine and Marilyn Manson all making appearances, though the Beastie Boys’ huge ‘Intergalactic’ and Australian D&B classic ‘Addicted To Bass’ add something to dance to.
Then there’s Australian alt-rock group TISM, who stand out at #4 with wanker call-out anthem ‘Whatareya’. It’s an excellent excuse to revisit one of our strangest bands.
Check out the full list below, and compare it to the original top 10.
