Start Your Engines, Because Hockey Dad Just Announced A Drive-In Gig
The band have promised a 'zombie apocalypse-style event'.
The coronavirus pandemic has completely disrupted Australia’s live music scene, so much so that bands are having to get inventive in order to tour. But perhaps no band to date has gotten quite as inventive as Hockey Dad.
The Wollongong-based rock duo aren’t gonna let the lockdown interrupt the release of their new album, Brain Candy. So, on Friday July 31, they’ll play a drive-in gig, with audience members rocking out in their car and listening to the set via their FM radio.
Basically, it’ll be like an old-school drive-in movie. Only with more riffs, and a lot more zombies.
“Hockey Dad have broken out of lock-down and are returning to the stage in a way that is unlike anything that has ever been done before,” the blurb on the gig page reads. “Despite gig and concert restrictions, there is no stopping the duo who have found a way to put on a Hockey Dad once in life-time event.
“Alive At The Drive-In will be a zombie apocalypse style event that will take place…for one night only.”
Exactly what the ‘zombie’ element will be remains to be seen, but the band promise that the gig will have a futuristic feel. “It’s a mixture of old school entertainment crossed with a weird futuristic apocalypse vibe,” they have said in a statement.
Supporting the band will be The Pinheads. Tickets are limited to a 400-car capacity, so get in quickly. Oh, and if you need any more incentive, just know that every ticket comes with a goody bag full of a poster and Hockey Dad treats.
Sounds pretty unbeatable to me.
Alive At The Drive-In will hit Wollongong’s Bulli Showground on July 31.
