Here’s Your First Look At The Mini-Golf Bar Replacing Newtown Social Club
Yep, that's Donald Trump's face on an ass.
At the end of April, beloved Sydney bandroom Newtown Social Club shut its doors for good.
The venue, which had previously operated as the Sandringham Hotel, said Sydney’s “current regulatory climate and the inherent challenges therein” made the business unsustainable. It was a big blow to Sydney’s live music scene, and tributes quickly poured in from punters and musicians alike.
And then, things took a brow-raising turn. Shortly after Newtown Social announced its closure, it was revealed that the venue had been bought by a Victorian-based company called Fun-Lab, with plans to turn it into a mini-golf themed bar called ‘Holey Moley’.
Live music? Not their priority, but not entirely off the cards either. “Holey Moley isn’t trying to be the next Newtown Social Club, but we do understand the importance of live music in Newtown and Sydney,” Fun-Lab CEO Michael Schreiber told The Brag.
“It’s early days for Holey Moley, and we’re still very much in planning mode, but we’re aiming to work locally, with our contacts in the music industry and within our businesses to figure out how and when live music can be run in venue. At this stage we are thinking monthly live music nights, comps for local artists to come play and local DJ sets every weekend.”
Holey Moley officially opened last night, so we went along to see just what it’s all about. It’s, um, very different to NSC.
