Here’s A Massive Infographic About Gender Inequality In Film

“It is clear that Hollywood remains stuck in its gender bias,” they say in their post. “By shedding light on gender inequality in film, we hope to start a discussion about what can be done to increase women’s exposure and power in big-budget films.”
We’ve only had time to scan the piece, but here are some of the most startling facts we’ve pulled out of it.
– Of the top 500 films from 2007-2013, only 30.8% of speaking characters were women, and roughly a third of them are shown in sexually revealing attire. Women accounted for exactly 50% of ticket sales.
– There is a 5:1 ratio of men working on films to women
– In the top 250 films of 2012, only 9% of directors were women; women made up 15% of writers, 17% of executive producers, and 2% of cinematographers.
– According to Forbes 2013 list of the top ten highest paid moviestars, actresses made $181 million compared to $465 million made by male actors. Angelina Jolie was the highest paid female actor; she made the same amount as the two lowest-ranked men in the top ten, Liam Neeson and Denzel Washington.
– In 85 years, only seven female producers have won Best Picture, all as co-producers with men.
– 77% of Oscar voters are male.
