One of the most anticipated films coming out of the 2018 Sundance film festival is Hereditary, a new horror film starring Australian screen legend Toni Colette, Gabriel Byrne, Alex Wolff, and Milly Shapiro.

It’s the debut feature from writer/director Ari Aster and, to get straight to the point, it looks scary as hell. The film revolves around a family being haunted by their dead, supernatural grandmother, and it promises to be a deep contemplation on the nature of family as well as something intensely terrifying. If there’s anything scarier than demonic grandmothers combined with a thoughtful treatise on familial relationships I’m yet to hear about it.

It’s already been billed as “this generation’s The Exorcist” and “pure emotional terrorism”. Others have called it “the most insane horror movie in years” and “the scariest horror movie ever”.

Hereditary has been produced by A24, the same production house behind 2015’s The Witch, which similarly scared the pants off Sundance.

This film has everything. Creepy dollhouses, possessed kids, dead birds, demon grandparents… we can’t wait to have the shit scared out of us.

Hereditary is set for a US release on June 28 this year. We’ll let you know when we get word of an Australia release date. You can watch the trailer for it here:
