The Internet Is Incredibly Overwhelmed By ‘Heartstopper’ At The Moment
"Nick realising he's bisexual watching 'Pirates Of The Caribbean' is the best bisexual representation I've ever seen."
The reaction to the new Netflix show Heartstopper — a coming of age story about two boys at a school in the UK — is, let’s say, having an impact.

Based on Alice Oseman’s webcomic of the same name, Heartstopper traces the burgeoning love story between Charlie (Joe Locke) and Nick (Kit Connor), replete with all the innocence and confusion that being a teenager can bring. The series also includes a lesbian love story between Tara (Corinna Brown) and Darcy (Kizzy Edgell).
Premiering on the Anzac Day weekend, the show has already garnered huge critical praise. Finding the viewing experience to be bittersweet, Emily Bashforth at Refinery29 reflected on Tara and Darcy’s love story, writing: ‘I Wish This Heartstopper Storyline Had Existed When I Was A Teenager’ while The Guardian declared that Heartstopper is “possibly the loveliest show on TV”.
But there’s nothing that’s been more heartfelt than the overwhelmingly effusive reaction to the show on social media, which users are saying is finally giving queer kids some much-needed visibility. Firstly, there’s a lot of love out there for Tara and Darcy’s relationship arc; particularly the language used.
the fact that tara and darcy always refer to themselves as "lesbians" and never "gay" or any other word is just so important for lesbians who still struggle, for some stupid patriarchal reasons, to say it out loud about them #Heartstopper pic.twitter.com/UzBafNbq2o

Maybe most importantly, though, Heartstopper finally gave the people keysmash representation. AT LONG LAST.
i think we forget about the most important thing heartstopper did for the queer community and that is showing keysmash on television for the first time. pic.twitter.com/Oo0G6oiSao
