The TV series, Hannibal has achieved somewhat of a cult status thanks to its dedicated fanbase of Fannibals.  Now, thanks to a particularly artistic fannibal, Hannibal fan art will be hanging in the US congressional building.

Every year, the US House of Representatives hosts a nationwide high school visual art contest known as the Congressional Art Competition. Winners are awarded in a ceremony in Washington DC, while the winning works are displayed for one year in the US Capitol building.

This year’s winner was a piece called ‘Dolce’ by New Jersey high school student Kathleen Palmer. ‘Dolce’ depicts Hannibal protagonists, Will Graham (Hugh Dancy) and Hannibal Lecter (Mads Mikkelsen) in a Cubist style with Will Graham donning antlers — which was a recurring image throughout the series. The painting itself is named after the title of season 3’s 6th episode.

For the non-Fannibals out there, Hannibal was a crime thriller tv series based on the novel, Red Dragon by Silence of the Lambs author, Thomas Harris. The series followed FBI profiler, Will Graham, as he hunted for a serial killer known as the Chesapeake Ripper not knowing that his psychologist, Hannibal Lector is the serial killer he seeks.

After Palmer’s win was announced on Twitter by their school and district representative, it didn’t take long for the series’ creator, Bryan Fuller to notice the artwork. Fuller quote-tweeted the artwork with the hashtags: #FANNIBALFAMILYFOREVER #FANARTISART.

New Jersey District representative, Andy Kim replied to Fuller’s retweet with the question: “If I invite you to the Capitol to see the artwork, does that mean there will be a season 4?”

You see, after surreal, gory and slightly homoerotic seasons, Hannibal was cancelled in 2015. However, the show is kept very much alive by a dedicated fan following consisting of talented artists like Palmer and other Fannibals like the judges of the Congressional Art Competition.

Perhaps Palmer’s award-winning Hannibal fan art in the US Capitol is just the kick the series needs to get that sweet, sweet, season 4 renewal.
