Hamilton is a cultural force, one of the biggest and most acclaimed musicals in recent years.

For the five years since it premiered, it’s been everywhere — everywhere except for Australia. Lin-Manuel Miranda fans Down Under have had to make do with soundtrack recordings and the extensive Hamilton Wikipedia page.

That is, until this week. Just yesterday, a filmed version of the musical finally dropped on Disney+, marking the first time that Australian Hamilton fans have been able to see the original cast strut their stuff.

And what incredible stuff. In the hours since the musical went live, Twitter has been ablaze with memes and reactions, honouring the show’s greatest moments. Here are just some of them.

Jonathan Groff Is The King

One of the early heroes to emerge through live tweets of the show was Jonathan Groff. He’ll be well-known to Mindhunter fans — he’s the lead of that show, an alien and cold FBI agent named Holden Ford.

In Hamilton, Groff plays George III, the spitting, dead-eyed antagonist of the proceedings.

And holy hell, does Groff give it his all, as demonstrated by the flood of memes about him.

Particularly interesting for eagle-eyed viewers is that Groff is visibly spitting throughout the show, a creative choice the actor made in order to best communicate the King’s decline.

Everyone Is Horny For Hamilton Star Daveed Diggs

Quickly, folks also began making memes about another star of the show, Daveed Diggs. Like Groff, Diggs will probably be well-known to you outside the musical for his work in rap group clipping., and his performance in the caustic serve of social commentary, Blindspotting.

In Hamilton, Diggs plays the extremely dapper and stylish Thomas Jefferson, bringing a quirk and a class to the role.

Oh, and he also happens to be unbelievably hot throughout, prompting a wave of thirsty Tweets.

The Watch-Along Was Genuinely, Wonderfully Chaotic

Just after the show hit Disney+, several of the key members of cast and crew hopped on to Twitter for a watchalong under the hashtag #HamilFilm. Quite quickly, that hashtag was flooded with all kinds of chaos, from dogs getting in on the action to a flood of memes and jokes.

Lin-Manuel Miranda Had A Good Time Watching Hamilton Too

Not content to leave all of the reactions and the memes to his fans, show creator Lin-Manuel Miranda starting releasing his own “composer’s commentary” videos, in which he spoke insights over a recording of his television. It’s about as lo-fi as such commentaries get, but for its clarity and, uh, expressive power, it’s unrivalled.

I mean, just watch:

What else is there left to say other than, thank goodness we all have this musical in such dark and upsetting times?
