Guys They’re Remaking ‘The BFG’ And The Trailer’s Here And I Don’t Know How To Feel About It?
please don't suck please don't suck please don't suck
So they’re making Roald Dahl’s timeless classic The BFG into a kid’s movie, and I find this news extremely conflicting. I have mixed emotions and I’m finding it difficult.
On the one hand I’m overjoyed that kids of a new generation will hopefully get to experience the wonder and terror and joy of a Roald Dahl story brought to life on the big screen the way The Witches did for me. Remember The Witches? That movie was goddamn terrifying. Anjelica Huston is the Grand High Witch of my nightmares from now until the earth is eaten by the sun.

Children need this kind of fear drummed into them. Keeps them nimble.
On the other I’m extremely miffed at the unstoppable Hollywood machine devouring beloved stories and spitting out paint-by-numbers adaptations to sell crappy plastic merch when the holiday season rolls around, which — worst case scenario — is what this movie will turn out to be.
But I guess if anyone’s going to efficiently mine my most sacred childhood memories for profit it may as well be Disney, who seem to have gotten the act of commercialising nostalgia without shitting on the source material down with The Force Awakens. But I could be wrong!
Also Steven Spielberg is directing this? Is that a plus or a minus? He did Jurassic Park, for which the world owes him a debt of gratitude we can never repay, but he also did Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull so I dunno? Man, I just don’t know.
Anyway here is the trailer, which at least earns points for not giving away every last plot detail like most do.
