Australian actor Guy Pearce has alluded to an unpleasant encounter with disgraced Oscar-winner Kevin Spacey.

The moment came during a conversation with Andrew Denton on Denton’s Channel 7 show, Interview. Denton asked Pearce about Spacey, who has been keeping a low profile since being accused of multiple instances of sexual assault. Pearce worked with Spacey on 1997’s L.A. Confidential, and was initially cautious in his response to Denton’s question.

“Yeah,” Pearce said as the audience laughed awkwardly. “Tough one to talk about at the moment.”

“Amazing actor, incredible actor… slightly difficult time with Kevin, yeah.”

“The time you were working with him?” Denton clarified.

“Yeah,” Pearce responded. “He’s a handsy guy”.

After a long pause in which Denton seemed lost for words, Pearce added: “Thankfully I was 29 and not 14.”

Pearce did not go into any more detail, although he appeared to be referencing allegations by actor Anthony Rapp, who accused Spacey of making sexual advances towards him while Rapp was just 14 years old.

Meanwhile, London police have confirmed they are investigating three new sexual assault allegations against Spacey, dating back as far as 1996.
