Grimes Has Defended Herself From Claims That She ‘Bullies’ Her Collaborators
Yesterday, Poppy claimed that Grimes halted the release of their song together, 'Play Destroy'.
2018 has been a… strange year for Grimes, to say the least. She’s just released a new single, the nu-metal pastiche ‘We Appreciate Power,’ which has an interesting subject considering Grimes’ scarily-powerful significant other. It certainly smells fishy. It has a certain Musk to it, you might even say.
Adding to that, Grimes has recently been called out by Poppy, a 23-year-old former YouTuber that released her second album, Am I a Girl?, in October. It includes a collaboration between her and Grimes entitled ‘Play Destroy’ – although, given her recent comments, Poppy probably isn’t interested in promoting it anytime soon.
In an interview with Billboard, Poppy accused Grimes of bullying her during the making of the song.
“We planned the song coming out months ago, and she was preventing it,” Poppy claimed.
“I got to watch her bully songwriters into signing NDA and not taking credit for songs that they were a part of. She doesn’t practice what she preaches. It’s really upsetting to work with a female that is very outward about a topic, but behind closed doors, it’s the complete opposite. It’s actually very disheartening to people that are actually feminists and supporters of other females.”
Now, Grimes has shot back at these claims via her Instagram story.
In a screenshot from her Notes app (via Stereogum), Grimes writes:
Poppy, you dragged me into a disgusting situation and won’t stop punishing me for not wanting to be a part of it. I don’t want to work with you, you leak the song anyway. u [sic] got what you want. Let it go.
So, where does that leave us exactly? Who else did Grimes allegedly bully? What was Poppy’s disgusting situation? Is anyone gonna get a free Tesla out of this as compensation?
Alas, this response has left us with even more questions than it has answers. Still, every little thing Grimes does has a powerful hold over us – and we appreciate power. Listen to ‘Play Destroy’ below.
