Well, it seems like the strangest beef of 2018 has come roaring back to life — two of the biggest alt-popstars in the world, Grimes and Azealia Banks, are feuding again.

If you remember (and no problems if you don’t, a lot has happened since then), the whole fracas kicked off back in 2018 when Banks travelled to the home of Grimes and her tech CEO boyfriend Elon Musk, ostensibly to record a new song. According to Banks’ Instagram stories from the time, the collaboration never materialised — she spent a whole weekend wandering the couple’s home.

At the time, Musk was embroiled in controversy after he had tweeted his plans to take Tesla public and sell shares for $420 a pop, a memerific number that fit with his “oversouped Redditor” persona. That controversy is why the collaboration never occurred, Banks said: the couple were too busy dealing with the fallout to attend to her.

And Banks was pissed. She quickly took to insulting Musk and Grimes, calling the former a “trash ass beta male pig” and the latter a “dirty-sneaker-inbred-out of the woods-Pabst beer pussy methhead-junkie.” Banks would later apologise for those comments, but the damage was still clearly done.

Now, Grimes has refuelled the fracas via a new song, ‘100% Tragedy’. The tune, which debuted at the virtual edition of Splendour In The Grass over the weekend, is about Grimes’ attempts to “defeat” Banks after the rapper “tried to ruin” Grimes’ life, the Art Angels singer explained in a Discord chat.

Shortly after the song hit the internet, Banks responded, opening up the drama once more. “So you go make a bootleg @inna song about it. Yikes,” Banks wrote on her Instagram stories, as reported by Entertainment Weekly.

“Grimes def has some psychosexual obsession with me. I think it’s bitterness cuz she doesn’t have the musical capacity I have. Everything she does is out of pretentiousness and it comes out like that…while everything I do is out of natural swag and geniusness…Starting to notice all the weird undercover millennial racists hide out on discord.”

There you have it — some dramas never die.
