Weep, Australia: Your ‘Gogglebox’ Favourites Yvie And Angie Are Never Coming Back To The Show

Stop all the clocks, cut off the telephone, prevent the dog from barking with a juicy bone, because Yvie and Angie of Gogglebox fame have apparently been barred from ever returning to the reality TV sensation.

Yvie Jones and Angie Kent, a pair of Sydney housemates famous for their quick wit and excellent BFF banter, won the hearts of the Australian viewing public across eight seasons of appearances on the show.

That all came to an end early last December, when Jones and Kent abruptly pulled out of Gogglebox. Later taking to Instagram live, they cited Angie upping sticks and moving out of Sydney as the reason for their departure. Apparently, the travel back and forth was just making it too logistically difficult for the pair to keep up their appearances on the show.

But although their Gogglebox time appeared to be over, many fans have been keeping the Yvangie flame burning in their hearts, holding out hope for the chance of a return.

Today, however, the water got thrown over that particular fire, with Foxtel’s executive director of television Brian Walsh announcing that Yvie and Angie have ruined their chances of ever coming back to Gogglebox land.

See, according to Walsh, the appeal of Gogglebox guests has always been that they are complete unknowns, free from showbiz polish. The show is, after all, advertised as an opportunity to soak in the company of normal human beings while they watch television, and although Celebrity Gogglebox episodes have aired in the UK, the roots of the show have always been in the regular.

As far as Walsh is concerned, Yvie and Angie destroyed the illusion that they’re regular folks by appearing on I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here! 

Moreover, as far as he is concerned, the pair have exploited “the Gogglebox brand to market and sell another program.”

Ooft.

Yvie and Angie should probably enjoy the television limelight while they’re off in the jungle for Celebrity; sounds like there won’t be much of it waiting for them when they get home.
