There are a few words in the dictionary that are, admittedly, just really difficult to pronounce.

Worcestershire is terrible, synecdoche doesn’t even seem like a real word and otorhinolaryngologist is a tongue twister at the very least. But apparently there’s another word that men seem to really struggle with, and that’s gnocchi.

Yes, gnocchi. According to @ronnui_‘s viral tweet, guys apparently have some trouble with pronouncing those delicious, pillowy Italian potato dumplings — and over 225,000 people agree with him.

For reference, the correct way to pronounce gnocchi is “nyow-key” but for some reason, it’s oddly difficult for men to do.

How do I know this, you ask? Well, girls on TikTok are now forcing their boyfriends to read the viral gnocchi tweet out loud to find out if it’s true. And oh boy, is it.

The unofficial “gnocchi challenge” was first started by Kate Rabinowitz, who made her extremely American man try and pronounce the dreaded word. Perhaps it’s the silent G that tripped him up or the double C’s, but either way, Kate’s boyfriend absolutely butchered it. Honestly, what in the hell is a “goonoowchie”??

After Kate’s video went viral, other women started forcing their boyfriends do the same thing. Absolutely embarrassing the shit out of their men who tried, and painfully failed, to read the tweet aloud, “gonochi” and “ganuchi” became popular pronunciations of the pasta dish.

But it all really went downhill when the Aussies decided to get involved.

As girls started to get their Aussie boyfriends to take part in the challenge, the beautiful bogan accents really came out in full force. With answers like “ganochai”, “knotchi”, “gunucchi” and even Italian luxury brand, “Gucci”, in some instances, there really was no hope for redemption.

Just like the tweet says, it really is over bro. Justice for gnocchi.
