The new return miniseries of The X-Files is now less than two weeks away and the hype machine is well and truly kicking into gear. After releasing a series of teaser clips, trailers and most recently a 21-minute behind-the-scenes featurette, Fox have now loaded the opening minute of the first episode to the dedicated X-Files site doyoustillbelieve.com complete with a tool to jazz up your Facebook profile photo in theme with the show.

The clip isn’t that eventful. As it serves as a bit of catch-up of the series to date it doesn’t reveal new information, however it does feature David Duchovny’s sultry voice over a montage of photos of Mulder and Scully looking very beautiful and pained. For that alone I wouldn’t feel too bad if you headed over now and gave it a watch.

However, what may be more interesting about this whole thing is how the series’ lead actors Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny are playing it up off-screen. Toying with the complicated nature of their characters’ relationship and the strong fandom (and enduring fan fic) it’s inspired, Anderson in particular has been getting fairly explicit about Mulder and Scully since mid-December.

As if that wasn’t satisfying enough, this morning she also set her sights on Duchovny himself. Ahead of their first late-night spot on Jimmy Kimmel for the new series, she threw this cheeky little tweet over to her co-star complete with what’s objectively the world’s most painfully flirty emoji.

Both this and Duchovny’s response have fans more excited than any official promo material ever could.

The X-Files new six-part series premieres January 25 on Channel Ten.
