Game of Thrones has been on our screens for eight long years.

Over that time, the show has covered a truly mind-boggling amount of dragon-filled, dead body-strewn ground. Characters appear and disappear in the blink of an eye, often exiting stage left with a dagger in their back or choking on poison. Everyone is scheming to get everyone else murdered, nobody knows who they’re meant to trust, and the whole thing is basically a mess of confusing and ever-shifting loyalties.

As a result, even relatively hardcore fans can get thrown by the sudden appearance of a character they’ve only heard mentioned by name. Indeed, unless you had the time to sink into a massive front-to-back rewatch, you were probably thrown by a whole mess of stuff that happened in the season eight premiere — even more so if you’re a fan of the books who can’t remember what happened on page and what happened on screen.

Well, never fear confused fans — the cast of Game of Thrones are here to man a (totally fictional) hotline in order to get you up to speed.

“Game of Phones” as the hotline is called, was gloriously introduced to the world as part of a segment on Jimmy Kimmel Live. In it, everyone from Sophie Turner (Sansa) to Kristian Nairn (Hodor, RIP) to a particularly fiery Lena Headey (clearly the best Game of Thrones character, Cersei) take turns talking fans through the complex backstories on the show.

They also give helpful advice along the way: Turner wants to remind you how to best check whether your clams are in date, and Maisie Williams has a foolproof way to steal someone else’s face. Entertaining and infotaining — what more could you possibly want from a humble Game of Thrones sketch?
