Friends Quotes That’ll Help You Conquer Uni Life

Friends is one of the most well-known and relatable television shows in history. There are many Friends quotes that relate to university life. "You can't just give up! Is that what a dinosaur would do?!" We hear ya, Joey!

Whether you relate to Joey “doesn’t share food” Tribbiani or could be any more Chandler, you know that there’s always a Friends quote waiting to help you through the latest crisis.

Friends encapsulates the ups and downs of life as a 20-something-year-old through a glorious ’90s lens (Jennifer Anniston was 25 when she filmed the first season. Twenty. Five. Queue our quarter-life crisis.) From on-again-off-again relationship drama to wayward naked neighbours, these six besties lived it all so we don’t have to. So keep these quotes handy for when uni is kicking your ass and you want to give up. Sometimes there’s a light at the end of the tunnel – even if it is just Joey telling us to eat more cake.

No “pla”? No worries!

From managing our work-study-life balance to cramming for last-minute assessments, the way forward can seem like one impossible deadline after another. Unfortunately, we can’t always plan for what life throws at us. So take some of Phoebe’s chill vibes: sometimes it’s just about letting yourself relax and power through – even without a “pla”.

Uni parties 101

University isn’t only about studying. If hitting the uni bar with your mates on a Friday afternoon is the only way to make it through that last tutorial, there’s no judgment here. So join some clubs, make some friends and have a good time.

WWDD?

What would dinosaurs do? According to Joey, never give up! This is a motto you need to instil in your uni life. When all-nighters drag on forever and exams are looming, remember that our paleo friends never let the man get them down. Who knows? Maybe a fiery meteorite will

hit before that deadline.

Fake it till you make it…

Group work can only go one of two ways: extremely successful, or abysmally terrible. When things start to go south, it’s best to do a Rachel Green – throw your hands up in the air and let the decisions make themselves. No assessment is worth a drawn-out argument, so soften your opinions and go with the flow. One Pass grade won’t hurt.

Love yourself

When exam season hits and you’re trudging to uni in your track pants and holey t-shirt, stand tall with all the self-confidence of Phoebe. You’re a sexy person with a lot to give – who wouldn’t want a piece of that? Maybe change your shirt first though…

On graduating…

Congratulations! You’ve reached your graduation and are now primed for a ‘what am I doing?’ freak out. The real world is looming and it’s full of expensive houses and competitive job markets. As Monica says, it’s not going to be a breeze. But there are places to be explored and friends to be made. Don’t worry, you’ll love it too.

No matter what

Good or bad, victory or failure – never forget to treat yourself Joey Tribbiani-style. We all need more cake in our lives.

University may be tougher than a Ross vs Monica Thanksgiving football match, and assignments a little more difficult than Rachel’s trifle recipe. But if there is one thing we can learn from Friends, it’s that everything is better when you surround yourself with people you love. So appreciate your friends, because they’ll be there for you, and you’ll be there for them too.
