The trailer for Flux Gourmet threatens a psychological thriller about a culinary ASMR cult and what can I say? I’m in.

The acclaimed British director of quietly bonkers movies Peter Strickland has shared a trailer for his new film, Flux Gourmet. Starring Sex Education‘s Asa Butterfield and actual goddess that is Game of Thrones’ Gwendoline Christie, the creepy trailer is a gory feast for the eyes and ears. The film centres on a collective of foley artists as they try to make sounds for horror films but of course, being Strickland, it proceeds to get a hell of a lot stranger than that.

The soundscape in the trailer pops, crackles, sloshes, slurps and snaps with sounds of food as it is cooked and consumed competitively for the auditory pleasure of an audience. One particular shot shows a mini-mic being squished into a bowl of bright red soup, the accompanying sound incredibly unsettling.

So, essentially, a dark academia ASMR thriller where the dramatics master chef possibly meets the macabre? Colour me intrigued. As someone who famously cannot stand ASMR, it excites me that a film will treat it with the extreme uneasiness that it inspires within me whenever I’ve been subjected to it.

Whatever your own feelings, view the weird yet somehow eerily wonderful trailer below:

Flux Gourmet will release in theatres for ASMR addicts everywhere later this year, after premiering at Berlin Film Festival later this month.
