We haven’t heard from New Zealand comedy duo Flight of the Conchords for a fair while — and now they’re back with ‘Father And Son’, a truly perfect ode to sad, divorced dads.

The song marks their first official release since 2012, taken from their HBO comedy special Flights of the Conchords: Live at the London Apollo, which debuted in October. The special’s a mix of new songs among classics — the release of this live recording hopefully means there’s more to come.

In it, Jemaine Clement and Bret McKenzie play dad and son, respectively, as they say goodbye after a weekend together and debate whether Bret’s mum is dead or just “hooked up with another guy”.

If you’re wondering what they’ve been doing with their lives since 2012, turns out both Clement and McKenzie have been quite busy.

Clement and McKenzie have acted in quite a lot of films (including, respectively, Moana and the first film of The Hobbit series), plus McKenzie even nabbed an Oscar in 2012 for ‘Man or Muppet’, one of the many original songs he wrote for the two excellent Muppets films.

Still, it’s nice to hear the band back together. Listen to ‘Father And Son’ below, or find it on your streaming service of choice.
