Some people can't stop crying and others are drinking heavily. Yay?

Last night Harry Potter and the Cursed Child Part One opened in London, and it appears that the first preview screening was a success! Well, maybe. The opening night spectators seemed pretty overcome with emotion (think the ending of Goblet of Fire-type of emotion. People are upset!).

Without spoilers, here are a few pictures of the set-up of the stage:

Apparently there was pyrotechnics. Wow! Perhaps they have something do with Seamus Finnigan?

There were also live owls! That seems dangerous with all the pyrotechnics, but maybe that just makes it more exciting.

J.K. Rowling requested that everyone #KeepTheSecrets of the play in a very emotional video on Twitter, because she knows that shaming people is the best way to get anything done on the internet.

Just to make sure none of you fucking Muggles were overcome with the impulse to tweet spoilers, they were giving out actual badges in the theatre as well.

All in all, the reaction to Harry Potter and the Cursed Child Part One is largely positive. Although, without giving anything away, fans do seem to be very emotional about whatever happens at the end. Like, very sad… or happy? Everyone is extra hyperbolic on the internet, so it’s sometimes hard to tell.

Search #CursedChild on Twitter, and you’ll find a scrolling feed of crying gifs and vague exclamations like ‘NO WORDS’. Which is a good sign, I guess?

Of course, some Harry Potter fans are still in denial that this thing exists. It’ll probably take a lot more than pyrotechnics to alohomora their hearts.

The preview of Part Two will take place in a couple of days, so tread carefully if you want to avoid any Cursed Child spoilers. The script will be available to buy on July 31 (I’ve already pre-ordered mine, please don’t judge me).
