Falls Festival’s 2020 Line-Up Will Feature Only Australian Acts
Finally, some good news.
The Australian festival industry has been absolutely decimated by the coronavirus pandemic, with some of the biggest events on the cultural calendar forcing to shutter for the foreseeable future. But not Falls Festival.
Today, in hopeful news, the organisers of Falls have released an open letter to festival-goers, assuring them that they are pushing ahead for a 2020 iteration of the festival.
Of course, if there’s one thing that we’ve learned through this pandemic, it’s that you can never predict what’ll happen too far in the future. But while acknowledging that things are uncertain, Jess Ducrou and Paul Piticco of Falls have made it clear that they are working hard to get some version of the festival up and running.
“Today we are excited to let you know that we’re working towards Falls Festival December 2020/January 2021 and that it will feature a limited edition, all Australian line-up,” the letter opens.
“Health and safety is always our number one priority, so as the recovery process begins and more information becomes available, we will continue working with and taking direction from the health authorities. But today we’re letting you know that while we’re living in strange times, we’re choosing the bright side.”
The news comes fast on the heels of projections from experts that festivals will not return at least until 2022, and even then, in a smaller, more limited capacity.
The Falls festival letter isn’t an iron-clad promise that things will return to normal quicker than that. But it is a much-needed burst of hope.
