Model and author Emily Ratajkowski has claimed that Robin Thicke repeatedly sexually assaulted her on the set of his video ‘Blurred Lines’.

— Content Warning: This story contains discussion of sexual assault. —

The revelation comes as part of Ratajkowski’s new book, My BodyMy Body has been described as “a profoundly personal exploration of feminism, sexuality, and power, of men’s treatment of women and women’s rationalisations for accepting that treatment”, with an emphasis on “the culture’s fetishisation of girls and female beauty, its obsession with and contempt for women’s sexuality, the perverse dynamics of the fashion and film industries, and the grey area between consent and abuse.”

In an extract from the book, and as noted by Tone Deaf, Ratajkowski details the incident on the set of ‘Blurred Lines’, writing: “Suddenly, out of nowhere, I felt the coolness and foreignness of a stranger’s hands cupping my bare breasts from behind. I instinctively moved away, looking back at Robin Thicke.

“He smiled a goofy grin and stumbled backward, his eyes concealed behind his sunglasses. My head turned to the darkness beyond the set. [Diane Martel, the director] … yelled out to me, ‘Are you okay?'”

At the time, Ratajkowski said she “pushed my chin forward and shrugged, avoiding eye contact, feeling the heat of humiliation pump through my body. I didn’t react — not really, not like I should have.”

Robin Thicke has not responded at the time of writing. It is not the first time that ‘Blurred Lines’ has come under controversy. The song was criticised for its aggressive, slut-shaming messaging, and for ripping off the work of the late, great Marvin Gaye. Indeed, as reported by Rolling Stone, Thicke and Pharrell Williams, the two co-writers of the song, had to pay the Marvin Gaye estate $7.2 million, over similarities between ‘Blurred Lines’ and ‘Got To Give It Up’ by Gaye.

My Body will be released next month.
