Australian actress Elizabeth Debicki will play Princess Diana in season five and six of Netflix series The Crown, and people are very excited — both because she’s underrated and because she’s incredibly tall.

Debicki, who starred in The Great Gatsby, Widows, and the pending Christopher Nolan film Tenet, will become the People’s Princess in the next seasons of the Netflix show, which just finished filming its fourth season prior to the pandemic.

The show follows Queen Elizabeth II’s life and switches casts between seasons as we skip forward decades — in season four, The Favourite actor Olivia Coleman will play the Queen during the Thatcherite years, with the Iron Lady to be played by Gillian Anderson. British actress Emma Corrin will play Diana in season four, and it’s expected the show’s fifth season will begin in the ’90s.

“Princess Diana’s spirit, her words and her actions live in the hearts of so many. It is my true privilege and honour to be joining this masterful series, which has had me absolutely hooked from episode one,” Debicki said in a statement shared by Twitter.

Debicki will act aside Imelda Staunton and Lesley Manville as Elizabeth and Princess Margaret, respectively, and Jonathan Pryce will play Prince Phillip.

Debicki’s announcement has been met with enthusiasm online, as the actress is something of a cult favourite given her performances in critically acclaimed but otherwise overlooked films and TV shows such as Widows, The Kettering Incident, and Vita & Virginia.

There’s also, uh, the fact that Debicki is 6 foot 3, which means there might have to be some strategic camera-work underway, given that Diana was 5 foot 10, and Staunton is 5 foot. People just want her to be tall in film and TV.

In other Lady Di news, Kristen Stewart will play her in Spencer, an upcoming film directed by Pablo Larraín (Ema, Jackie).
