Important news for all of our Victorian readers: Early voting in the state election is now open, so if you’re going to be away on November 24, or you just can’t be arsed lining up on the day, it’s now time to get cracking and cast your votes.

According to the Victorian Election Commission, a massive 50 percent of votes in this year’s election will actually be cast before the big day, and there’ll be a record number of voters overall, thanks in part to that pesky marriage equality postal survey driving new enrolments for your people.

Remember, if you’re enrolled to vote in Victoria but you don’t do it, you’ll cop a fine. So here’s the how, when and where of voting early in the Victorian state election.

How To Vote Early In The Victorian Election

If You’re In Victoria…

If for some reason you hate eating democracy sausages, you can vote early by asking the VEC to send you a ballot form. Or you could pop into an electoral office or post office anywhere in Victoria to pick one up.

Once you’ve filled out the form, just drop it into an early voting centre, or post it back to the VEC. Just make sure you send it back ASAP — votes need to be in the VEC’s hot little hands no later than 6pm on Friday, November 30.

You can also vote in-person at an early voting centre. The VEC has put together this handy tool to help you find your nearest polling place.

If You’re Interstate…

If you’re enrolled to vote in Victoria, but you live interstate now, or even if you’ll just be on a nice lil weekend jaunt to Sydney on the 24th, you still have to vote.

As we said above, you can ask the VEC to send you a postal ballot to any address in Australia, and you can return it to them ASAP.

Or you can pop into the electoral commission of whichever state you happen to be in and vote early there — But you won’t be able to do this on the day, so get there ASAP.

If You’re Overseas

If you’re going to be overseas on November 24, good on you! Seeing the world is a great thing for a young person to do. But you still have to vote.

The best way to vote is to pop into your nearest Aussie embassy or High Commission. Here’s a handy list of places you’ll be able to do that. Or you can apply for a digital voting form.

So get voting! It’s important.
