When I think of Tom Hardy, I think of words like ‘grizzled’, ‘hulking’, ‘terrifying’ and so on. Blame it The Revenant. And Mad Max. And Bronson. And The Dark Knight Rises. And the fact that he looks like he could break me in half with his bare hands.
Point is, he wouldn’t be my first choice to read an adorable children’s picture book. But I guess that’s just where I and the producers of CBeebies Bedtime Stories differ.
Hardy was a recent guest on the BBC children’s program, along with his golden retriever, Woody. Kicking back on a couch surrounded by stuffed animals, Hardy read aloud from Simon Philip’s You Must Bring A Hat, a gripping tome about a little boy who is invited to a party on the strict condition that he brings a hat.
Incidentally, now I no longer think of Tom Hardy as ‘grizzled’, ‘hulking’ and ‘terrifying’ so much as I do ‘sweet’, ‘cuddly’ and ‘behatted’.
