RuPaul’s Drag Race has taken up a lot of TV this year, and now, 2020 is getting its fifth iteration of the show in August, though it’s a little less of a race and more of a classic reality show.

RuPaul’s Drag Race: Vegas Revue was announced today as a six-part documentary series about the (thanks to COVID-19, short-lived) vegas show ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race Live’, following  “six legendary drag queens in their professional and personal journeys as they take on Las Vegas in a brand-new ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race Live!’”.

‘Drag Race Live!’ might sound familiar to S12 viewers: the final five challenge was based off the new show. Launching in January, Live! featured many Drag Race legends — the show will follow Asia O’Hara, Yvie Oddly, Vanessa Vanjie Matteo, Kameron Michaels, Naomi Smalls and likely winner of All Stars 5, Derrick Barry.

In the trailer, we see Kameron and Vanjie make-out, and RuPaul appears to shake the dice and, assumedly, steal some rice.

Given Vegas Revue’s similarities to documentary series Werq The World, which follows Drag Race queens on a worldwide tour organised by show producers World Of Wonder, it’s likely this was originally a bonus/special season of that which has been promoted to the Drag Race banner in wake of COVID-19.

After all, we were supposed to get seven separate seasons of Drag Race this year: in addition to the already or currently airing S12, Canada, All Stars and Secret Celebrity, seasons of Thailand, UK and even the debut of Australia were due to premiere in 2020, but were put on hold due to COVID-19.

We’ve reached out to Stan to see if they’ll aquire Vegas Revue, but given their relationship to World of Wonder and their track record of airing all Drag Race-related content, it’s pretty likely.
