Hail Satan: A Whole Bunch Of OG Doom Levels Are Dropping Soon
Doom! Brainchild of genius games developer/manbaby John “I’m about to make you my bitch” Romero! Staple of the childhood of everyone over the age of about 27! Weird archaic cultural reference point for everyone under the age of about 27! Birthplace of a thousand weird memes! Janky work of art that genuinely revolutionised the industry!
Yes, that Doom. To celebrate the lo-fi masterwork turning 25 (!), Romero has taken a break from his 18-year stint of apologising for Daikatana, the game that murdered his reputation (he’s still really, really sorry), to announce Sigil, a Doom expansion.
DOOM turned 25 today, so I feel like its appropriate to share that in shitty mobile games I like to name the characters things like "John Romero's Daikatana" or "Deus Ex The Iconic Cyberpunk Title" and it leads to fantastic screenshots like this one pic.twitter.com/fXpnEvgdCC

Sigil is a “megawad” – a glorified patch, basically – that contains nine single-player levels designed to pick off where Doom‘s fourth episode, “Thy Flesh Consumed”, left off. The plot of the new levels (surprise surprise!) will see you shred your way through waves of sulfur-smelling meanies, fighting your way through hell itself to confront what Romero calls the “ultimate harbingers of Satan.” Fun!
Sigil also boasts nine deathmatch levels, so newcomers raised on Fortnite can go back to where the multiplayer form first began, and revel in all that pixelated goodness.
Best of all, the game is totally free, though it does require a registered copy of the original 1993 Doom to play.
And if you’re just dying to give some of John Romero your hard-earned cash, then you can plonk down a still yet to be specified mountain of moolah for the Beast Box Of Sigil deluxe edition, which comes with a “floppy-disc” themed USB, a big-ass box covered in demons, and, perhaps most excitingly of all, a pewter statue of Romero’s own head implanted on a spike.
Oh wow, John Romero can't get enough of old DOOM stuff. New E1M8, new E1M4 and now an entire megawad?
I mean, DOOM was awesome, so I understand why John Romero wants to return to it. ;) It's a good game to return to, even now. https://t.co/kYxAVmmAge

Sigil is set to drop sometime in February next year, so in the meantime, why not head over to Romero’s website for more info, before retreating down to your basement, dusting off your floppy disc collection, and blasting some OG Doom beasties in preparation.
