Harry Styles And Florence Pugh Waltz Through A 1950s Nightmare In ‘Don’t Worry Darling’ Trailer
Finally, the 1950s are being treated as the horror they were.
The trailer for Olivia Wilde’s Don’t Worry Darling, starring Harry Styles and Florence Pugh, just dropped and it’s mesmerising.
The second film from cult-comedy Booksmart director Olivia Wilde, Don’t Worry Darling has been long-anticipated. The film has been hyped since before the pandemic, in part, thanks to Wilde’s choice of the film’s leading man, Harry Styles.
Finally, fans have been blessed with a trailer and plot synopsis for Wilde’s mysterious and much-awaited psychological thriller. Between a star-studded cast that includes Chris Pine, Gemma Chan, and Kiki Layne, the nightmarish 1950s settings and the aesthetic — to say I am intrigued is an understatement.
The official synopsis for the film reads thus: Alice (Pugh) and Jack (Styles) are lucky to be living in the idealised community of Victory, the experimental company town housing the men who work for the top-secret Victory Project and their families. The 1950s societal optimism espoused by their CEO, Frank (Pine) — equal parts corporate visionary and motivational life coach — anchors every aspect of daily life in the tight-knit desert utopia.
While the husbands spend every day inside the Victory Project Headquarters, working on the “development of progressive materials,” their wives — including Frank’s elegant partner, Shelley (Chan) — get to spend their time enjoying the beauty, luxury and debauchery of their community. Life is perfect, with every resident’s needs met by the company. All they ask in return is discretion and unquestioning commitment to the Victory cause. Of course, it doesn’t take long for everyone to realise something sinister is lurking under the surface.
Don’t Worry Darling will be exclusively in cinemas on September 23. Watch the trailer below.
