Don’t Be Alarmed, But One Of The Gilmore Girls Might Be Pregnant

Would it be worse if it was Rory or Lorelai, I can't decide.

While we wait for Gilmore Girls to debut on Netflix in November, we have plenty of time to send ourselves batty by analysing every scrap of information Amy Sherman-Palladino is allowing to surface. Today’s tidbit is this Instagram image (hey, they’re not having such a bad day after all!)

Pop-Tart appetizers to hold us over ’till the pizza comes. And one apple.

For those who haven’t watched every season hundreds of times, apples are a significant foodstuff in the Gilmore Girls universe. Lorelai’s diet is renowned for being mostly made up of cheeseburgers, pizza and Pop-Tarts (yet she’s so thin! Thanks for the unrealistic body standards, television!) except apparently, when she has pregnancy cravings.

In season five, Lorelai thinks she might be pregnant when she starts craving apples, because she ate so many apples when she was pregnant with Rory — her best friend Sookie even comments on how unusual it is to see her eat one. A couple of days before the apple craving Lorelai has had drunk, unprotected sex with her boyfriend, Luke (yeucch). It turns out she’s not pregnant though, and being in the hospital while Sookie gives birth just put babies on her brain.

Although, the inclusion of the apple in the marketing image could be pointing to a less significant moment in the show. In season one, Rory’s classmates Paris, Madeline and Louise come over to her house to do a group project and Lorelai serves them Pop-Tart appetisers with an apple garnish. I am kind of hoping it is this to be honest, because I don’t want either Rory or Lorelai to be pregnant (also, this show has a bad track record with character pregnancies, see: Lane Kim). I will not be swayed on this.

Gilmore Girls will be on Netflix on November 25.
