The Director Of ‘Black Panther’ Wants Donald Glover To Play The Villain In The Sequel
Yes please.
Black Panther director Ryan Coogler is reportedly in talks with actor and musician Donald Glover, aka Childish Gambino, in the hope he will agree to play the villain in Black Panther 2.
According to a source quoted by Metro, Coogler “is currently mapping out Black Panther’s sequel and has written in a number of new characters” and that “one of those characters, if he gets his wish, will be played by Childish Gambino”.
The source said that nothing has been set in stone, but that “informal talks” are currently taking place between Coogler, Glover and reps from Marvel and Disney.
Coogler is also reportedly thinking about bringing actor Michael B. Jordan back for the sequel, although it’s not clear what that would look like given that (spoiler alert) his character Erik Killmonger died at the end of the first film.
It’s worth noting that this news has not actually been confirmed by anyone working on the movie, while The Wrap film reporter Umberto Gonzalez tweeted that there is “no truth whatsoever” to the Metro report. So, consider this news served with a healthy dose of salt.
Of course the fact that we’re even getting a Black Panther sequel also suggests that the ending of Avengers: Infinity War might not stick… not that that’s especially surprising.
In the meantime, you can see Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian in Solo: A Star Wars story, in theatres now.
