Big props to whoever came up with the idea of Tony Armstrong hosting a show about dogs, because this sounds like the glittering, low-stakes content of our dreams.

Everyone’s favourite AFL player turned ABC news presenter will host A Dog’s World with Tony Armstrong, a three-part series that combines two of the nation’s biggest obsessions: Tony Armstrong and dogs.

Tony Armstrong’s star is on the rise — the former AFL player started his media career as a sports commentator on Yokayi Footy in early 2020 and is now a beloved sports commentator on ABC TV’s News Breakfast. His fun, clued-in energy on the show has garnered quite a lot of attention, and yes, his infamous “bulging discs” gaffe will probably live in our collective consciousness until the end of time.

“When I was approached about the possibility of being involved in A Dog’s World, I don’t even think I got to the end of the email before I was agreeing to take part,” says Tony in a statement about the show.  “It was amazing being involved in the project, I learned a lot and I hope everyone who watches enjoys it as much as we enjoyed making it!”

Word has it that the show will dig into the science of what makes dogs unique: their fascinating evolutionary journey, why they’re the perfect human companion, and presumably, why they’re so adorable. Tony will also offer pet owners some advice about how to have the happiest and healthiest dog possible.
