This Distraught Footy Fan On Talkback Radio Compared His Team’s Loss To The Assassination Of JFK
It has not been a great year for Richmond supporters.
The regular AFL season is officially over, and for fans of the Richmond Football Club it could not have come fast enough. It’s been a disappointing year for the Tigers, one that was capped off by a 113-point demolition by the flag favourite Sydney Swans at the SCG over the weekend.
As is tradition among long-suffering Tiger fans, the loss to the Swans was immediately followed by an outpouring of grief and frustration on talkback radio. And no one was more frustrated or grief-stricken than regular SEN caller Mario from Doncaster, who phoned the station to share the full extent of his agony.
“Guys, when President Kennedy was assassinated, Jackie’s famous pink dress — the Chanel dress — was covered in blood. And she refused to take it off that day because she wanted America to see what they had done to her husband,” said Mario.
“When Richmond was down by 130 points – no, listen – I vomited all over myself,” he continued, to the laughter of the hosts. “And I haven’t taken it off.”
“I want everyone to see what Richmond has done to me.”
Now before you start howling about how this guy is obviously putting it on, let me tell you that as a Richmond fan myself, walking around in your own day-old vomit seems like an entirely appropriate reaction to what the Tigers served up on Saturday afternoon. The point is, Mario buddy, I feel your pain.
