Actor, singer and sex toy mogul Demi Lovato is now promoting a controversial spirituality platform that has a history of peddling dangerous and hateful conspiracy theories.

Lovato recently announced they had partnered with Gaia — a platform that describes itself as “the Netflix of spirituality” — in an Instagram post last week. “Thrilled to be a Gaia ambassador. Understanding the world around us (the known and the unknown) is so exciting to me!” They wrote in the Instagram post.

“Gaia believes the fanbase Lovato continues to cultivate has a desire to dig deeper into the more important questions regarding the nature of reality,” Gaia said in a statement regarding Demi Lovato’s partnership.

While the platform promotes yoga and meditation, it also covers a number of more conspiratorial topics like “big pharma”, “chemtrails”, “aliens”, “forbidden science” and whatever the “secret space program” is. Lovato would be forgiven for using the platform for its yoga and meditation content, but a quick look at their dedicated page makes it abundantly clear that their promotion directly links to conspiracy theory content.

“I am excited to be one of Gaia’s first celebrity ambassadors and honoured to join a platform I have been a fan of for some time,” Lovato says on their dedicated Gaia page. “Understanding the world around us, both known and unknown, and diving deeper into areas that expand our consciousness is exciting to me and I am honoured to be able to be a part of a community of people who want to do the same.”

On their page, you can watch full episodes of Deep Space: Ancient Space Program or Psychedelica: Psychedelics and Consciousness. Lovato also links to their “favourites” on the platform, including videos about Area 51, UFO denial conspiracies, sacred numbers and ancient civilisations.

According to their “handpicked favourites”, Lovato enjoys a series about Atlantis being a very real place, and that civilisation is living in the aftermath of a war between giants and reptilians — AKA lizard people.

“Long before humanity as we know it existed, reptilians and giants ruled the Earth and sought to guide our destiny,” the description for one of Lovato’s favourite shows reads. “These two extraterrestrial species guided the course of human civilisation and our spiritual evolution, with differing plans.”

The move is hardly surprising considering Lovato has self-described as a “UFO experiencer” and recently explained how to talk to extra terrestrials — noting that “aliens” is a derogatory term.

While it’s easy to write Gaia off as a joke, it’s worth noting that the platform boasts more than 750,000 members — with over 8,000 videos promoting conspiracy theories and pseudoscience to an impressionable audience.
