Demi Lovato Says She Realised She Was Queer Watching The Kissing Scene In ‘Cruel Intentions’
Same.
During an interview, Demi Lovato says she realised she was queer while watching the iconic make out scene in the 1999 movie Cruel Intentions.
Ever since I can remember, there has been a lot of conversation about what ‘makes’ someone queer. Debates like ‘nature’ v ‘nurture’ or things like the ‘gay gene’ often come up, with no agreed upon conclusion. But I believe science has simply overlooked the real reason people are queer – being a young person and seeing the the 1999 film Cruel Intentions.
imagine being gay has nothing to do with nature vs nurture and everything to do with watching "cruel intentions" during your formative years

Unlike a lot of other movies and pop culture, Cruel Intentions went above and beyond, providing moments for people of all genders to see and become queer. For those would become attracted to men, Ryan Phillipe’s naked ass provided the moment they needed.
God didn’t make me gay. @RyanPhillippe in Cruel Intentions made me gay.

But for singer Demi Lovato, there was only one moment that mattered. While hosting Facebook Watch’s ‘Coming Out 2020’ event with Queer Eye star Tan France, Demi was asked when she first realised she was not straight.
She answered “It was definitely when I was young and should not have been watching Cruel Intentions but I did, and it was that scene where they made out on the park lawn. I was just like, ‘Oh, wait a minute. I really like that.’ I was like, ‘I want to try it!'”

Demi is obviously not the only one who feels that way about the kiss, with countless people, including myself, realising the impact that the 2 minutes had on our lives.

If you are queer now after watching that, welcome. It’s nice here.
