It’s official: Daniel Kaluuya has won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for his role in Judas and the Black Messiah.

Nominated alongside his co-star Lakeith Stanfield, Kaluuya took out the award for his portrayal of Fred Hampton, American activist and leader of the Black Panther Party who was murdered by police in 1969.

While his win isn’t that much of a surprise considering the actor won the same award during the Golden Globes last month, the internet is just so excited that Kaluuya finally has a well-deserved Oscar under his belt.

During his acceptance speech, Daniel Kaluuya spoke highly of his co-stars and took the time to acknowledge Fred Hampton and all he did during his short, but impactful life.

“[Fred Hampton] was on this earth for 21 years, and he found a way to feed kids breakfast, educate kids, give free medical care, against all the odds,” Kaluuya said. “He showed me how to love myself… thank you so much for showing me myself.”

But one part of Kaluuya’s speech people, and his own mother, can’t quite get over is the actor’s decision to focus on his parents having sex — a moment in time which brought Kaluuya into the world and to this very moment.

“I’m gonna get back to work Tuesday morning because tonight I’m going up,” Daniel Kaluuya said. “We’ve got to celebrate life; we’re breathing, we’re walking, it’s incredible.”

“It’s incredible,” he continued. “Like my mom met my dad, they had sex, it’s amazing. Do you know what I’m saying? I’m here, do you know what I mean? I’m so happy to be alive, so I’m going to celebrate that tonight.”

Almost instantly, the confused, disgusted and embarrassed reaction from the Kaluuya family in the audience became its very own meme.

In the press room, Daniel Kaluuya decided to reflect on the moment where he brought up his parents bonking and explained that “it just came out of my mouth”.

“I think it’s pretty obvious that all our parents had sex. That just came out of my mouth,” the actor said. “My mum is probably going to text me some stuff, but here we are.”

“I’m going to avoid my phone for a bit, mate,” the actor continued. “Trust me, I think my mum’s not going to be very happy. But she’s going to be cool. She’s got a sense of humour.”

So in that case, I too would like to thank Daniel Kaluuya’s parents for having sex and giving him to us.
