Hell Yeah, Courtney Barnett And Kurt Vile Just Announced A Collaborative Album
It will feature members of Sleater-Kinney, Warpaint and more.
Indie legends Courtney Barnett and Kurt Vile have today announced a massive US tour and collaborative record, along with backing band Sea Lice ft. members of your faves Sleater-Kinney, Warpaint and more.
Teased earlier this year on social media, the duo’s album was reportedly recorded in eight days (??!!!) over the course of 15 months. It’s set to come out late 2017 via Mom & Pop, Matador, Marathon Artists, and Barnett’s Melbourne-based record company Milk! $1 from every sale will go towards the American Civil Liberties Union.
The pair sound like they’ve been mutual fans for a while now, with Vile outlining his love of ‘Depreston’ in a statement and Barnett describing her admiration for The War on Drugs from way back:
“In 2014 I scored a support slot opening for Kurt at the Abbotsford Convent [in Melbourne],” Barnett said. “We met briefly after the show but I was a bit nervous and didn’t wanna bother him, just grateful for the gig. Years later we started bumping into each other on the festival circuit all around the wide world and we became friends. He hit me up when he was coming to Melbourne next and said he thought we could work together.”

The tour also sees Barnett reunite with backup-band member Janet Weiss of Sleater-Kinney and Wild Flag fame. Weiss cameoed in the kickass ‘Elevator Operator’ music video last year. Sea Lice also features Stella Mozgawa (Warpaint), Rob Laakso (The Violators, The Swirlies, Mice Parade), and Katie Harkin (Sky Larkin, touring member of Sleater-Kinney and Wild Beasts).

The US tour kicks off in October this year, and we’ll have more details about the album soon.
