We’re Launching Courtney Act’s Book With Osher Günsberg On Sunday
'Caught In The Act' is one of the funniest, most alive memoirs in recent memory.
Courtney Act is a star, one of the most recognisable and influential performers in the drag scene.
Born in Brisbane, the multi-hyphenate talent has released albums, stormed the world of RuPaul’s Drag Race, and now written an astonishingly funny and powerful memoir, in the form of Caught In The Act. The autobiographical work has won rave reviews since being published, including a glowing write-up from Junkee‘s own Drag Race recapper Jared Richards.
“Caught In The Act begins with Jenek’s childhood in Brisbane, but really kicks off when he arrives in Sydney for a weekend as an 18-year-old, and ends up spending his entire time there not checking out NIDA or scoping out acting opportunities as planned, but crawling in and out of gay bars across Oxford St.,” Richards writes.
“Sex is central to Caught In The Act, with Jenek describing in detail his experiences with men, women and groups, as both Shane and as Courtney. It’s a mixture of both tips (‘you gotta get those balls in your mouth and use your tongue on the taint while you work the shaft’, plus the Courtney Act Patented Lubing Technique, which I have dog-eared) and tenderness.
“It’s detailed in a way few memoirs are, with Jenek joking towards the book’s start it’s ‘part sexed-up Tumblr fan-fic’, though that undersells how well (i.e. not cringe) they’re written.”
Now, to launch the book out into the world, Junkee have teamed up with Osher Günsberg, the beloved host of The Bachelor, for a special live event going down this Sunday. Featuring Act herself in conversation with Günsberg, the event will see the performer go deep on their past, present and future, dishing out the stories that make up the backbone of their incredible book.
Basically, it’s a not-to-be-missed live event, ideal for Rupaul’s Drag Race fans and neophytes alike.
It all goes down at 6.30pm over on our Facebook page, so be sure to check it out.
